How far is Manali from Delhi, and how long is the drive?
Manali is about 540 km from Delhi, a 12–14 hour drive via Chandigarh and Mandi. The first 250 km on NH-44 is quick highway driving. After Chandigarh, NH-3 climbs into Himachal through Bilaspur, Sundernagar, Mandi (the usual lunch stop) and Kullu, before the final mountain stretch to Manali at 2,050 m. There is only one practical road, which is why so many travellers drive overnight and save the daylight for the hills.

What are the best places to visit in Manali?
Solang Valley
Fourteen km from town at 2,560 m, Solang is Manali's adventure hub, with paragliding, zorbing, a cable car, horse rides and snow skiing from January to March. Bring warm clothes even in summer, or rent them at the base.
Rohtang Pass and the Atal Tunnel
Rohtang Pass sits at 3,978 m, 51 km from Manali, and its snow is the big draw in May and June. The 9-km Atal Tunnel now provides year-round access to the Lahaul Valley. Rohtang itself needs a permit, and our driver helps you arrange it.
Hadimba Temple
This 14th-century wooden pagoda temple honours Hadimba Devi, Bhima's wife in the Mahabharata. It stands in a deodar forest 2 km from Mall Road — an easy, photogenic walk.
Vashisht hot springs
Three km from Manali across the Beas, Vashisht village has free natural sulphur springs with separate sections for men and women, beside the ancient Vashisht Rishi temple. It is a classic Himachali experience.
Old Manali, Mall Road and Manu Temple
Old Manali is the relaxed, bohemian side of town: narrow lanes, cafés, Israeli food joints popular after treks, and shops selling Tibetan crafts. Mall Road is the busy heart, full of restaurants and shops selling Kullu shawls and woollens. Above it all is the temple of Manu, the sage who is said to have meditated here and who gives the town its name.
Naggar Castle and the Kullu Valley
Naggar Castle, 21 km away, is a 500-year-old wood-and-stone fort that now runs as a heritage hotel. The drive there winds through the apple orchards of the Kullu Valley.

When is the best time to visit Manali from Delhi?
- March to June (spring and summer): 10–25°C and pleasant. This is peak season, so book early.
- September to November: clear weather, autumn colours and fewer crowds. Highly recommended.
- December to February (winter): -5 to 10°C, with snowfall in Manali itself and skiing at Solang. Roads can close for short spells during heavy snow.
- July and August (monsoon): heavy rain and landslide risk, and the roads to Rohtang are often closed. Best avoided.
Festivals in and around Manali
- Kullu Dussehra (October): a 7-day festival at Kullu, an hour from Manali, with more than 200 village deities.
- Winter Carnival (January): snow sports, music and food.
- Magh Saji (mid-January): Manali's harvest festival.
